NASTY

NASTY (adj): unpleasant, unkind
  • What nasty weather! I'd rather stay at home today.
  • Tom and Jenny have many problems with their nasty child.

ASHAMED

ASHAMED (adj):  feeling shame, sorrow, guilt about something

  • We felt ashamed of our old clothes among all those elegant people.
  • You should be ashamed of your getting drunk at every party you're invited to!

TO WHISPER

TO WHISPER (V): to speak very quietly, so that only a person that stands near you can hear
  • The girls in the restaurant were whispering in the corner. I'm sure they were telling gossips.
  • He whispered in her ear "I love you" and gave her a kiss.

COUGH

COUGH (N): a sudden noise caused by somebody that pushes air out of their nose
  • He had a bad cough so he stayed at home today.
  • I didn't hear her last word, because the man next to me gave a loud cough.

TO CHASE

TO CHASE (V):  to follow somebody in order to catch them

  • Our cat was chasing a mouse.
  • Chase after them and remind them about our meeting next week!

DEGREE

DEGREE (N): a unit of measurement; amount or level, especially of ability or progress; a title that you get when you finish university

  • Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
  • You must have a degree in biology to do the job.

TO KNEEL (V):  to go down and remain on your knees

  • People knelt down to pray.
  • Kneel before the king!

TO SLIDE

TO SLIDE (V):  to move or to make something move smoothly over a surface
  • I used to slide down the stairs when I was a child.
  • He slid his mobile phone to me across the table.
